Coachmen TT question

We are looking at a 2009 Coachmen Captiva and want to trade a 2011 Catalina. Ours is a 22FB and the Captiva is a 29 something and there is about a $4000.00 difference in price. The dealer is saying the Captiva is a step up from Catalina but we were told the Catalina is better. I do not think they even make the Captiva anymore. Just want to see if anyone owns one and thoughts about this trade. We really like our Catalina just decided to go seasonal next year so want something a little bigger but do not want to regret trading.

  • Back in 2010, when we were looking to upgrade, my buddy loaned me his Captiva for our annual 2-week vacation. Frankly, it didn't make an impression on us, either good or bad. It just was. Everything worked as it was supposed to. The only recollection I have is that the trailer brakes were terrible. But that just might have been a maintenance issue, not a build issue.

  • I don't have any personal experience with either brand. But from the description of your specs - I would not trade down in year - 2011 to a 2009. I would keep looking and if I had to pay a price difference I would want it to be because of going from a 22 to 29 and because of newer model. If that required me to wait and save more money then I would do that. But that's just me.
  • We traded our '06 Captiva 272RKS this spring. I found the a soft spot in the bathroom floor that appeared over the winter and didn't want to deal with it.

The problem we had with the '06--and I don't know if this is the same way on the '09--is the trim at the bottom edge along the sides. Very cheap, maybe 3" wide PLASTIC "T" moulding, stapled to the underside. Little or no caulk. The top edge of the moulding overlapped the side, and allowed water enter along the edge. Seems to be a poor design. Had damage along the edge on both sides.
