Coil Spring Air bags - what PSI?

My 2014 Ram 1500 is a wuss. Squats like crazy under the puny weight (probably 1100# loaded) of my stripped-out Bronco 1200 popup. We added the Air Lift "sausage" bags that fit inside the springs, and that sure helps level out the truck again, but I'm curious as to what PSI other folks might be using? The truck still seems to sway back and forth a lot....

Thanks - we'll see how it goes this weekend. Both bags share the same air valve right now.

Splitting the plumbing will definitely improve the situation. Even after that, too much pressure in the bags will also add to the side to side sway. It's a balancing act between getting the lift you want but not using so much pressure that you get that bobbling affect.

Another thing to check is the shocks. Factory shocks are generally pretty wimpy and a firmer shock can help reduce the spring rebound that causes that side to side sway.

    What tires are you using?
If you have the stock 20" tires they are terrible for carrying a load. Basically passenger car tires.
Get a good E rated tire.

This is sound advice. And air 'em up!

Make sure they are plumbed independent of each other, so that you have to fill each side separately. This will help with the side-side motion some.

I like this truck when I'm using it as my "car" - but the minute I ask it to do any work, it seems to fall flat on its face. If it can't get any better than the 10 mpg the display is currently showing, Ed is never going to take it out west....

  • I run them in my Armada and keep them at 35 PSI when towing and 10 PSI when not towing. I air them up prior to setting WDH and I do not use them to level my truck. They do help with ride and stiffen up the rear end. I think the Air Lift 1000's MAX at 35 PSI. WDH is what should be used to level your truck not Air Springs.
