Cold Weather Camper Recommendations

Guys.....I am somewhat full timing while working in PA during the week...home on the weekends in VA. This winter, I learned VERY quickly that my 2013 Keystone Bullet Ultra Light is NOT made to withstand cold weather. I knew it already, but I learned a hard lesson.

Looking to upgrade to a 4-season travel trailer with an empty weight of no more than about 7k lbs. Also would like to switch to a rear living area vs a bunk house. Any recommendations?

I'm in the air most of the day flying home from El Paso to VA so bear with me on responses.

  • Even the best four seasons trailer will need after purchase upgrades. Start by looking for a unit with enclosed waste tanks and valves. You can add electric heat to the enclosed tanks by adding 120 volt outlets. I've added them to two of my storage compartments as well.

There is a long thread on winter camping in the full time forum with lots of good advice. Don't forget to protect the fridge!
  • Bigfoot RV comes standard with thermal pane windows and has foam core insulation. Arctic Fox from Northwood also has a fairly good insulation package.

The dirty truth is that all of the TT's are limited by the dimensions of the walls and ceilings, some choosing to tout a foil barrier as being R-15 or some such nonsense. Be careful when shopping.

Some day, an RV company will figure out that installing a thermal break between interior paneling and framing cavities provides the extra level of comfort for Winter use. There may be one out there but I haven't found it.
