We stopped at Monument Lake end of June this year and bit were people catching the trout, us included. We also drive back in to Needle Lake not far East of Gunnison. Beautiful, small, dry camping. Only 2 other campers then and fishing was decent. Also went to Avery Lake outside of Meeker. Same story, dry camping few people and good fishing. One low water crossing at that time. Really pretty and quiet. So many places and so little time and money. Minor details.

Thanks and it's good to see the lake is full. I've stayed there before and will be there next week. We like Grand Lake much better than Estes Park. Glad most do not agree with that.

You are correct, Estes Park is a joke if you are looking for a laid back vacation. The only time you can be assured of a RV spot in the RMNP is at the stroke of midnight on Jan 1st each year. Way too many people for me and my taste.

Cool photos. Some of the first real Rocky Mtn trout fishing I ever did was in Monarch Lake back in the 70s. Actually saw a snake up there by the lake; didn't know they were that high up. I think its called a Rocky Mtn Garner Snake. They are harmless and it was moving real slow. :)

If going to Granby, you may want to also check out Arapaho Bay CG. It is very quiet and scenic, though you will be dry camping.
