I agree with LarryJM. You can do it, but it's going to be taxing to the driver.
When I went from a 4,400 lb. trailer to a 7,300 lb. trailer on an SUV (rated to tow 8,950 lbs.), it was too much for me. Soft rear suspension and passenger car tires made the rear too "loose" for me.
