Complete noob tower in search of advicr

So here's the scoop. My question is whether or not I can set up a hitch on my vehicle in order to pull the enclosed trailer I wish to buy. I currently have a 2003 Chevrolet Impala base model (3.4 liter) and my cargo will weigh anywhere between 1000-2500 pounds depending on the product I'm transporting. Will my car be able to support a cargo weight up to 2500 pounds? And thats not including the weight of the 5 x 8 trailer which could be up to 900 pounds. Which means I need the vehicle to tow up to 3400 pounds. Is this possible with the vehicle I have or do I need to upgrade to an SUV or light pick up? Comments would he greatly appreciated! Always willing to learn from the people who know more about towing than I do (which isnt much)

  • Your owners manual says that trailer weight should not exceed 1000 lbs.

I would stick with that. The 3.4 was in vehicles that had a tow rating of 3500 lbs (like the Venture). These had oil coolers and transmission coolers. I can tell you that 3.4 give great fuel economy, and I would not tow 3500lbs more than 10 miles.

    I strongly suggest an upgrade.
  • Goto chevy.Com look up your vehicle and see what it is rated to tow. Keep in mind if it is at or very near the trailers weight rating you will not like the towing experience and neither will the car.
