Nothing wrong with a porta potti either - I installed an electric flush Thetford 585 in our Fleetwood popup, along with my own DIY in-dinette seat shower, and used both on every trip we ever did in the 6 yrs we owned that camper. We'd personally not own any trailer without either, regardless of what type it may be - popup, hybrid, travel trailer, whatever. The OP's concern over "sleeping too close to the toilet" is IMO much ado about nothing.
