After 6 pages have you figured anything out? You already know typical family has 1,000 pounds of gear added to dry weights. Add batteries and propane too. All of that exceeds your 4 banger frontier.
You are limited to 10 foot popups only, and forget about a full self contained pup.
There is no reason in the world why a family can't choose to 'pack light' (300 to 500 lbs) and carry a minimal amount of water.
Where does this "typical family has 1,000 pounds of gear" statistic come from, anyway? Can anyone cite any research or hard data to back up this assertion? Or is it one of those, "I read it on the internet, so it must be true" type of facts?
You`re right, I would say to add 12-1500lbs to the dry weight. maybe less on smaller trailers with less storage room. the facts are when you read posts here where people say they weighed there trailer and were shocked at how much heavier it is than they thought it was. this all includes water, propane, battery, clothes, food and drink, cooking utensils, bedding, bathroom supplies, TV,DVD (if you have one)chairs, grill. I`ll stop there, but I know there`s more. It all adds up.
On my very first trailer I was 1100lbs more than the dry weight. our second trailer was 1300lbs more than the dry weight. and our current trailer is 2100lbs more than the dry weight. these are all scaled weights too!
