Converting power cable to detachable Marinco

I cut mine off , leaving about 5 feet inside , bought a new male and female end , put the male on the remainder inside and the female end on the 15 ft or so piece I cut off , now have a extention cord if I need it .
If you always use a extention cord along with the full length in the compartment your lowering your voltage , the longer you go , not so good if your using a smaller gen for AC
