I would think it would be a great thing if you DIDN'T have a topper. With a topper your bed is sheltered from the sun and rain/snow. I have had Line-X in two pickups and my last one is now 8 years old and in great shape even after lots of use. I really like the spray in liners. I had a truck down on the Oregon coast at the bed had lots of rust because of all the deep scratches. I am sold on liners.
I also put in a rubber bed mat to help keep things from sliding and to make kneeling down a lot easier.
