Costco has a pretty small 6000 btu AC now

once you see anything on the shelf that may be a hot seller, it is gone within days never to return. I have raced over to CCo when a friend said they had a certain item only to be disappointed that it was gone and won't be back. Plus each different CCo can have slightly different stock.
6K BTU's would be good for a small cube camper in anything but the summer Southern climes, me thinks.
We bought a 7K BTU Fedders air conditioner 42 years ago during an extended heat wave in L.A. that worked well in a 400 sq. foot space. It saved us and our then 1 and 3 year old children. But, it was big and bulky. I'm sure now with the electonics pared down so the unit would be smaller and lighter.

Yes, I agree with you Jefe...Costco has great stuff but sometimes only for a month or two. Heck, they probably will move the summer stuff and get Christmas stuff in about 5 weeks :-)

6k BTU will be about perfect for our flatbed camper build. I am pretty sure it will be able to run off our Honda 2000 watt generator.

I was planning to do as you suggested and build a test setup out of spare plywood. I have several precision electronic thermocouples and multimeters and will measure temperature gradients in the shroud. I could also add a small 115V brushless computer type fan to aid in venting everything out of the back so it could work in a cabinet and be near flush with the outside of the RV (my goal). Our roof is totally flat and Rhino truck bed liner coated, so no leaky air conditioner is going up there.

It is nice to be able to find a small AC unit such as a 6000 unit. When I was looking for the master bedroom the smallest I could find was 8000.

Or you can get have someone buy you a giftcard. That will allow you in. You just have to pay with cash and the giftcard when you check out.

Or you could get a friend to take you to Costco. Thats what I used to do before I got my own membership.
