The ban on burning firewood started in MANY States years ago, due to the invasive species of bugs that were brought here to the USA in shipping crates. These crates were made out of locally grown wood, and were the home to these many different bugs, thus as some crates were discarded in the trash, those flying bugs just found a NEW home.
This is main reason now that many parks ban you from brining in your own firewood, in an attempt to lessen the effect of this rapid spread of these tree killing bugs. Out village just the last month cut down over 200 ash trees in an attempt to curb the spread of this Ash Bore beetle. I think that this was a futile attempt to stop the beetle, as they are already in our surrounding villages.
So when camping i burn left over construction wood, 2X4, 2X6 ETC. If you have new constriction in your area, just ask for the scraps, as it saves them money in refuse costs.
