Since it became publicly known that moving wood is harmful, I've not moved wood - actually, a lot earlier than that. I can't remember when I last moved firewood - perhaps 15 years or more years ago... Until fairly recently, I didn't have any to move, so it was a non-issue. (When I was a kid my parents always gave unused wood to other campers. I've NEVER, in my life, brought wood home from a camping trip.) Once I did have wood that I could have taken with me when camping, it was known harmful, so I didn't. I burn it at home during the winter.
It's usually VERY easy to get wood local to a campground. I prefer to buy from locals just outside the places we stay. It's not always cheap, especially when compared to the cost of my endless free firewood at home (even more so now), but it's also not expensive, and a lot safer.
