Cummins/ Achates Diesel

Do you think the new Diesel motor designed for the military will make it's way into consumer vehicles?

The link article says it will use Atkinson cycle--Atkinson is good for efficiency but poor on low end torque. What makes diesels fun to drive (love my 2012 Ford 6.7) is the crazy high low end torque. Maybe something about this design fixes low end torque or maybe it just spins real fast while the fighting vehicle rolls across the battle field.
I wouldn't call 2400# of torque exactly low, it would be interesting to see the torque curve.

  • 2400# of torque as well. 21 percent reduction in waste heat, 50 percent more power density, 13 percent less fuel use. 6 cylinders in the space of a 3 cylinder.
