Current single battery and propane, want to go dual

I just bought a new KZ Sporstmens classic and I wanted to get your recommendations on how I can add dual battery and propane, both from single.

Below is a picture of the A frame, which is quite small. The single battery is behind the tank and the area is just shy of being long enough for two batteries. Can I just get a plate for a dual battery and propane tank and mount it to the top of the A frame?

As you can see the weight distribution brackets are also in the way. Recommendation?

  • Thanks for all of the replies. It would seem everyone thinks this is definitely doable but I still have the concern about the weight distribution attachment points being in the way. Ideas?
  • I have the KZ Spree Escape 196 with a similar tongue. I do not think that dual propane tanks will fit but as previously stated a 30 pound single tank may work fine. I also had dual batteries put on when purchased. They basically mount two angle brackets to the top of the tongue instead of the factory mounts being below the tongue for just one battery. Custom enclosed metal battery boxes should work fine too.
  • I did this exact mod to the StarCraft 18QB I used to have.

I used the torklift battery box (already mentioned above) with the sliding lid on top of the A-Frame as close as possible to front of trailer for the batteries.

Then I mounted the holder for the two propane tanks right at the jack and it had room enough for the snap up brackets.
  • That looks like a 20 pound LP tank. You could stick with one and upgrade to a 30 or 40 pound tank. It would have the same footprint.
You could mount batteries inside the RV somewhere.
Find the right metal fabricator and you can have anything you want mounted on the tongue.

You may have to move the propane tanks mounts closer to the jack... Looks like you can gain a couple of inches here doing that... You will want to put a cover on the tank to keep them out of sight...

I would also use a long shank padlock to lock down the turn screw to remove the propane tanks to keep them more secure from thief..

The batteries can be mounted on top of the two frames and extend out on both sides as long as you need it to be to support two or four batteries...

Torklift makes a great metal battery box with sliding lid for those real tight areas...

Torklift has a lock hole in their slide lid for a lock to keep from moving the slide top.

The angles can sitting on a raised section to clear the WDH hardware...

You can do the same thing for angles under the propane tanks to be able to mount tow of them...

Hopefully your spare tire is on the rear of the trailer...

Looks like it may be tight fit but doable...

This is what height=500 - Width=BLANK-no entry looks like on here...

  • My dual batteries are nestled down in the A frame and my dual propane bottles span across the top of the frame. Your idea is completely feasible.
