custom build about to start

Hello folks,

Im new to the forum here but not to construction. I thought I would share some photo's from my upcoming build for you all and I am hoping someone would have a clue on how to calculate weight.. Im going to be putting this on a 550 im hoping my weight not going to exceed 7500-8000 pounds.

Im also trying to get some likes and dislike before I complete the build so I will be able to make changes before its to late.

Hope everyone is able to view the photo's for I was unable to drop them right in.

  • Interesting design although the inside graphic rendering seems out of scale. I also think it is going to be too tall. Can you tell us a little about it's intended purpose?

Are you building it? Keep in mind that many manufacturers had issues building their first slides. Do you plan to take it off or is this going to be built on the truck never to be removed. If so, do you have an idea where you are getting jacks big enough to take it off?
  • My guess on your camper with a 14.5' floor, quad slide, the equipment you chose and 100 gallon water tank is close to 8000 lbs once loaded with gear.

Have you considered a diesel generator and not having to haul propane? Cooking can be done with diesel (expensive) or electric. Hot water can also be electric...
  • My Ram 5500 is just over 10,000 lbs when empty and the Ford F550 will be close to that. That leaves you with about 9000 lbs but realistically around 8000 lbs to work with. Will you be towing anything behind you? I have an enclosed trailer that adds almost 1000 lbs of tongue weight.

Once you start looking at other trucks, you will find two problems:

    1. Cab height is taller so your cabover will have to be shorter or aft of the cab
    2. Wheels are taller so your camper floor sits higher

At some point, the camper starts to get too big remove. You can make modules, like JFet, or decide to hard mount it to the truck. Hard mounting takes away some functionality of being able to split the two units but will reduce weight since you do not need a loading platform and a supporting camper floor.
  • Wow, this looks like it will be enjoyable to watch your build. Is there a youtube channel or other social media planned to document this build?
  • If moving up to a 650 won't that make you even taller? At 13'7" now on what you have is over a lot of underpass clearance now, just trying to think safe, it looks really nice would love to see it when it's done.
  • Thanks Bedlam,

Yaa im 13'2 about with out anything on the roof and there wont me other the the solar panels witch will bring me to 13'7" The a/c unit is mounted below (Basement/Back part of the Kt Cabvnet 22X28) then a 22X22X9" cassette mounted in the ceiling.

Whats in it.. List to long but here are the high points:
This will have a 22seer 12kBTU duckless mini AC/Heatpump 220v, 4-7,000 jacks, 400w solar system with Onan QG 5.5 Propane Gen. tankless hotwater heater, 100gl water. w/gray only, composting Can before someone asks lol complete 7-1 theater sound system.. self confined WIFI boster 3,000 ft range many more My Tiny House... 250sf of floor with the slides and another 14X12 Attached screen room for almost 400sq total living space.

I may have to move up to a ford F650 then that will handle 14k of weight
  • Much of the weight will be holding tank size and choice of building materials. This is bigger than a Host Mammoth which is in the 5000-6000 lb range. The Host is 9.5' tall with air conditioning. You may be too tall once you put things on the roof. Why such a tall inside ceiling?
  • Thank you your link is broken as well I may need to move the photo's
grrr lol for now people are going to need to copy the link

well I tried even linking it to photobucket with no luck
