When I had to open up the bottom I would cut a 3 sided square hole about 18 inches on the 3 sides. Folded down the flap, alwasy cut it so the attached part was towards the front of the trailer so the air running under the trailer as you drove forward would not be a factor to pull the flap down. Then after repairing whatever reason I was under there for, would buy from a lumberyard a long piece of 2"X2" wood and cut it about in 18" lengths. I would lay the cut piece of wood over 1/2 the opening edge and use 3/4 inch wood screws to screw it into place then pull the cut flap up to catch the remaining edge of wood and screw that flap up. I would use about 4 or 5 screws per side of the opening and then use the gorilla tape to seal over the cut. That never fell down, still would allow me access should I need to reenter the bottom and stayed dry and no bugs.
