Dealer diesel truck mods

The question first, does any Ford, GM, or Ram dealer offer a modded diesel package like the car package described below for more power and fun?

I have picked on ShinerBock about getting a modded truck fixed on the road. Now I going to turn the tables on myself, I cannot find this in a diesel truck, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. How about some help.

Lebanon Ford offers a blown 2018 Mustang for about 42k, which includes the car. It comes with a full 3/36 warranty good at any Ford dealer. It makes 700 crank HP, better than the snake and far less dollars.

I have searched a little, but I can find no joy. Does a diesel pickup package exist that gives a boost, with at least factory repair, not only a full warranty, promise?
  • Shiner do you know if Roush has to have EPA approval for all the race stuff they put on cars? I assume they do? It must be expensive if they do.
  • in my experience as a Ford tech for 17 years

all the modified vehicles like Rousch,Saleen and even the Ford SVT need to have warranty work done by certified techs for those products.

the dealer i worked at did do some mods to diesel trucks, but like mentioned it was all suspension, tires wheels etc.nothing to the engines or drive trains.

once you start modifying the power train you void warranty unless its an approved mod done by an approved mod company(i,e, rousch, saleen etc.) and then again they are only warranteed by the approved dealers/techs/companies.

I've only found appearance, suspension and wheel package upgrades for trucks. Most of the time the selling dealer or product has some type of warranty, but these upgrades are not covered by the truck manufacturer. It may mean the only place you can get warranty repairs for those effected parts will be at the dealer where you bought the truck.

That is the same with other vehicles he mentioned. If you have a Roush tuned vehicle then you can only have the Roush added parts warrantied at Ford dealer that is also a Roush dealer whcih most aren't. A friend found this out the hard way. After he bought his Roush stage 3 Mustang, he got stationed to an area where the closest Roush dealer was over 150 miles away.

  • Banks used to offer something similar, but I don't think they do it anymore. With diesels being under an emissions magnifying glass these days, I doubt anyone would even attempt it. Ironically, these packages that Roush and others offer for Mustangs and other vehicles increase there increase emissions more than a modded diesel with emissions intact would.

Although, there are other reasons behind this that has nothing to do with emissions witch is exhaust gas temps and other things that need to be monitored . Gasoline performance cars generally rev high(reduces EGTs), don't tow, and only need their performance in short bursts so exhaust gas temps are not a big issue. Diesels on the other hand generally rev low, are meant to tow, and need their performance for long periods of time when towing so high EGTs for a sustained period of time are a concern.

If you pulled a load on a 150+hp performance tune up a long 5 mile grade then you would probably be doing some major internal damage by the time you reached the top. I have seen a handful of people do this even though they were told multiple times not to hence the reason why I always say that things will last "if you drive it right". Unloaded, a modern diesel truck can easily handle a 150+hp tune all day long for years and years, but the power needs to be dialed back to a 50+ hp tune when towing 12k or so and to a 30+hp tune when when pulling anything over that depending on terrain.

If I was a performance shop, I would not want to offer a warrantied diesel performance tune for a truck due to how many idiots there are out there unless that tune was very conservative. Maybe an extra 30hp or so max. This is why most tuners offer multiple tunes (that can be shifted on the fly) depending the usage of your vehicle and why they recommend you have gauges to monitor your temps. I also don't recommend high horsepower tunes to those that aren't mechanically inclined or know much about diesels. Sort of like how I would not recommend a first time tower to pull a 14k load until he gets a some towing experience first.
  • ya..... you better go back and read that Mustang warranty again.

it's a warranty offered by Rousch. . Or more likely a warranty that Rousch buys from a third party.

i am confident of two things. First, that there are lots of weasel words. Second, that it is way more of a pain than dealing with a traditional Ford warranty.

Don't want to bum anyone out. i think the risk of mild engine mods gas or diesel is pretty low. But it is definitely a low incidence, high risk kind of affair. Meaning iits not likely to go bad, i but if it does it's going to be really expensive.

I know my dealer does a lot of mods on new diesel trucks and sells them as new full manufacturer bumper to bumper but they don't do anything to the engine. It's normally 6-8" lifts, body mods and wheel tire combos. Diesel trucks are not usually bought to hot rod but more for show and looks. Yes guys mod the engines but usually nothing like the Mustang you talk about.
