Well that was an interesting trip. Leaving yesterday in the middle of a storm with wet kids and dogs, my heater stopped working driving out of town. Not good, the temp rose so I pulled over and low and behold...upper radiator hose blew off.
So this could be a few things. I always go worse case and think blown head gasket. Which would suck this far from home and work/school to go back tomorrow. Could be stuck thermostat which over pressures the system. Cap should have bled it off though...
So, inspect hose for splits or cracks, good to go (best I can tell in the pouring rain on the side of hwy 18); fill with water...start and watch for bubbles (none so most likely head gasket holding) and get to temp and check for leaks...seems good. Held up find all the way home...
So freak accident? Who knows at this point. Got home late, TC still on the truck and I'm at work...
Will flush system, replace thermostat/cap and inspect hoses/water pump and check for head gasket leak again on a more through basis....cross fingers!
I have a few pics I planned to share...this put a damper on that for a bit.
Lessons learned? Honestly I can't think of how I could have prevented this at this point. It is looking like a freak accident so far, but thankfully being semi able and have some basics saved our bacon and got us home.
