I love the simplicity of the Northern Lite, and it's great not to have to worry about a rubber or vinyl roof. If you just go to a campground and park it, maybe it would be really nice to have the additional room of the slide-outs, but the way we pull over several times a day to fish or just sightsee, the unit is always comfortable to use. Since we spend about 40 nights in Yellowstone during the season and see more truck campers than most people, I've never seen one I would prefer -- although I like the layout of the Bigfoots with the rear dinette and lots of windows. Tizi, have you looked at the new Northern Lites and Bigfoots? Sometimes the wife just needs something new!
Here is where I am at: I love the NL set up. I own both truck/camper outright.
I don't like that the slides must be extended on the Host to be usable. I don't like the price of a new truck and camper.
I am thinking I might look at small toy haulers (either trailer or fifth wheel) for longer trips. We plan to do Yosemite and Grand Canyon next fall for 2 weeks. We will be pulling our cargo trailer too (with additional outside space - EZ up etc). That trip will give an idea of how our current set up will work on longer trips. I hate spending money on stuff I already have...
