diesel cost !

When I plan a trip, I like using Street Atlas Plus, and using the estimate fuel stops. I also set my "End of Day" for 3 hours only, to estimate breaks. I then use gasbuddy to try and find what stations are generally cheaper than others, but are convenient to get to (checking Google Maps and Street View). As Cummins12V98 referred to, I rather spend a little more for the convenience of a truck stop.

Around my area diesel is $2.29/2.66 with regard gas @ $2.58 2.96. With the truck stops mainly being the lowest. Costco has the lowest prices.

It is nice to have diesel prices down. As a boat owner (as well as the 8.1 Burb), it would be nice to see the unleaded prices follow.

In regards to truck stops always being more expensive, that simply isn't the case around here. The prices at the truck stop on I70 at the exit for my house, are always the same as they are anywhere else. I notice the same is true when I am traveling across the state. Maybe $0.10/gallon difference at times. But I am willing to pay $2.50 (or Jim's $12) for added connivence, and not having to worry about pumps and entrance/exits to the fuel station that are set up for cars and not 60 foot rigs.

I am not arguing your reasons of why you do things which is why I said to each their own. I just saying the that your "just pennies" statement is false in many cases. If you want to use the "I meant per gallon" reason g then I would have to ask when was that last time you put less than 5 gallons in your tank and how often do you do that. Again, I am not arguing why you do what you do. You can do what you want since it your own truck and pocket book. I am just saying that the "just pennies" statement is a bit false. I am also not talking about going 20 miles out of your way either. That would be just stupid for even a $.40 difference on a 30 gallon tank. I am just talking about the fact there is usually major difference in price just a few miles from many highways and it is many times worth it for your navigator(or yourself) to check.

My cousin is like that. Has to stop at the "cheapest" place he can find on Gas Buddy when we're on the road towing. Will drive all the way across town just to go there and I'm like WHY???

I'm more about finding good name brand stations that have easy access than buying strictly on price. With nearly $100k in tow I don't see the point...

I'll go to the cheapest place along whatever route I'm on, but I don't go out of my way to get cheaper fuel. In my area diesel and gas both still run close to $3.00, and the only way to get it cheaper would be to run 30 miles out of town to save maybe 5-10 cents per gallon. So basically you'd eat up all your savings with the fuel you spent going out of your way, plus you've wasted a bunch of time.

The fact that you guys are all paying a third less for fuel is...annoying.

The difference between $2.59 and $2.19 is not " just pennies", and is a $.40 per gallon difference which is a quarter, dime and nickel. Also, when was the last time you just put a few gallons in your tank? So why look at it as per gallon rather than in tens of gallons when you are more than likely going to be putting more than 20 gallons in your tank each fill up?

Which is why I said to each their own if they wish to save money or not. I was just saying that most your "just pennies" comment is false since it is way more. You quoting the $12 I stated is admittance that it is not "just pennies". Also, I am not just saying this for those with their RV's either. I am stating this for EVERYONE with a diesel loaded or not since it is true that diesel is cheaper away from major highways where semi trucks frequent.

Diesel fuel sure has gone up a lot since I bought my first big truck in 1975. In Wyoming I was paying $0.34 a gallon for diesel. Yes I am older then dirt.

I bought that tractor to do a job and it did it very well. I ran coast to coast and border to border for 28 years. So you could say it was my DD.

You don't buy a diesel truck to get good fuel mileage. Its a tool to do a job. In my case it was tax deductible. As they say,you have to pay to play.

I also owned two diesel pick ups,a 99.5 ford F250 CC LB 4x4 7.3 and a 2006 F350 dully 6.0 . The 99 was for my truck camper and the 06 was for my fifth wheel.

I-95 in SC used to be the best places to fuel up. But I think a few years ago, those truck stops got wise and increased their prices knowing they could still beat NC prices because of fuel taxes.

When we race in SC along I-85, its always awesome on fuel prices. I just checked and Gaffney, SC truck stops were at $2.06 for diesel yesterday.

The discrepancy is due to the free fall in oil and finished fuels. The cheaper stations just filled their tanks with cheaper fuel... you win. The more expensive stations are hoping to keep some margin on their "old" fuel. We are looking at potentially sub $2 fuel by late fall.
