If you don't believe in diesel fuel additives and say they are a waste of money, this thread isn't for you.
I came across this test the other day. It came out in 2007. I'm not the most scientific guy so I'm looking for some input from some of you that are.
The one thing I noticed is that in the Opti Lube test they used double the amount(.5oz/gal)instead of the recommended amount(.25oz/gal)by the manufacturer. Does this mean it doubled the results of this test? In other words, if they used the recommended amount of .25oz/gal would the results have been half as good as reported.
The report is history as they say. What many wonder is most of the fuel treatments contain many of the same ingredients, primarily solvents. Are the 'proprietary' ingredients listed for some the secret? Some also contain emulsifiers that would allow water to pass through the HPFP. Is that safe. And the dose regimen for all of them is a relatively small quantity of fuel treatment relative to the amount of fuel being treated. What exactly is the magic elixir that makes the fuel less abrasive? And, with such a small quantity of treatment added to the fuel, does it really make a difference?
I used to regularly dose my fuel with Amsoil Diesel Treatment, but after reading the product MSDS and comparing it to other products, I stopped. Use it a couple times of year now for whatever injector cleaning properties it may possess. Don't have the newer Bosch pump on my truck, so I won't know if it matters.......... As for the injectors, seems like they will at some point wear out or fail....just hope it won't be while I own the truck. :D
