As I said, it isn't "always" against the law. The law is a funny, and often misinterpreted creature. You have to pay attention to the wording regarding gasoline powered vehicles vs. diesel powered. There's a difference in legality and liability regarding a private person in lieu of a dealer/mechanic. There's also a difference between simply driving and selling. I don't profess to be a legal expert, but I've read enough to understand that you're likely to not get in trouble for deleting your truck.
I fail to see your point, being the supposed mandatory correlation between dislike of the government and making modifications to your truck. If I bought a K & N breather kit because it advertised 3% more horsepower or a programmer to modify shift points, I suppose that means I have distaste for government regulations. Lord only knows what you would think if I bought slightly larger tires. The arrogance of my privilege must be sad.
Actually, yes, tampering with, defeating, removing an emission control device is illegal. Not sure about the government statement either, but if you bought a K & N or changed shift points, it isn't the same as defeating an emission control device.
Turning your truck into a coal roller simply shows you're s few cards short of a full deck.
