Diesel "loudness"?
Do diesel trucks get louder as they age, or were ones built years ago that much louder than today's diesel? I test drove one recently, a 2016 ram 2500, and it was rather quiet... only a bit louder ...

I have been forever glad that I didn't get the chance to buy the old Ford 7.3 or the Cummins 5.9 that were so darn loud. My first diesel was a 2003 GMC Duramax, my second a 2011 Ram Cummins and third was a 2012 GMC Duramax. They have all been very quiet and, except for the injectors being replaced on the 2003 GMC(a common problem with that year of engine, haven't had a great deal of problems. All have started and, other than a bit of a clacking when cold starting, have run nice and quiet. I don't begrudge anybody the right to have a loud engine, but for me, I prefer one that is fairly quiet as I don't need a lot of noise to know that my engine will do what I want it to.
