Hi Paul,
I know you're used to diesel, and realize the price gap will narrow in the summer. I remember reading your account of getting Ricksons for your truck some time ago - when I was deciding whether to get a dually in moving up from 2500 to 3500. (I did.) I went through the cost analysis before getting my first pickup - when I sold my Class A gasser to a fellow in Bancroft. I have always assumed that for the amount of driving I do (15-20K km/yr) it's more expensive with diesel, and gas might even be more reliable since I won't even hit 300K in the life of my truck. So in the end it simply came down to my preferences and willingness to pay. I didn't like struggling to pass slow vehicles, and then watching them pass me on the next hill. I'm not impatient. I just like to be able to maintain the speed I choose. I don't like having a line of traffic behind me when I would choose to go faster in those road conditions if I could. I think the high revs of a hard working gasser might actually raise my blood pressure. I know they're meant to rev. It just seems like I'm expecting too much of it. So I'll keep choosing diesel. Now, I'm also running down the road at 24K lbs total, but even when I was 18K lbs the difference for me was night and day with my first diesel.
Enjoy whatever you choose!
