Some have said it depends on how long you keep it. I agree with that. but the diesels also maintain a higher reale value than the gassers.
For us the purchase price doesn't really play into it ,except for affordability. We haven't bought a new vehicle since 1985.We let someone else take the big depreciation hit and then we buy it when it's 2 or 3 years old. And we don't borrow to buy it.
We keep them so long that resale isn't an issue. we are still using our 1987 and our 2000 is our "new truck" that we've had for 12 years. The extra cost for diesel is long ago forgotten. but we are still reaping the enjoyment of the better mileage and the torque of the diesel.
I'm sure you will enjoy any new truck you decide to buy, They are all nicer than what they used to be.
