One thing no one is mentioned is that the diesel is not as good for hauling as the gas engines. In my Ford F350 CC 4x4 DRW the diesel option came with almost a 1,000 lb payload penalty. With the Gas engine fully loaded I'm under my 14,000 GVW rating, with the diesel I would be way over.
So far there hasn't been a mountain in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, or Montana that Ford's 6.2 hasn't been able to accelerate up or I hasn't been able to provide enough engine breaking going down.
Frankly, I would argue because you are hauling, not towing, a gas engine is ideal for a truck camper. Towing, that might be a different issue.
