The idea that gas v. diesel is purely a question of fuel economy and initial cost v. trade-in value presumes that economy trumps all other considerations.
For me, it does not. When I bought my first Cummins (which happened to be surrounded by a Dodge pickup) in '96, it was, to some extent, a whim.
Now, 18 years and two trucks later, I am just a diesel man. It is just a far better truck engine.
It used to save me money, and now maybe it doesn't, but the fact that it is just a FAR better truck engine remains.
As with most diesel owners who haul heavy loads, it is inconceivable to me to go back to gas.
