I'm not a big Ram fan, but gotta admit biased drama gets old. Here's another perspective:
I'm with you on the biased drama, but even those numbers in the image are pretty sad. I know that the "1/2 ton" etc. monikers are somewhat obsolete, but I also think it's reasonable for a pickup marketed as a "1/2 ton" with 4 doors should be able to handle a family of 4 and carry 1000 pounds in the bed without overloading. Many "1/2 tons" of all brands fall well short of that.
Ok, weird side note. I turned on the TV today the Brady Bunch was on.
They had a Dodge Station wagon around a 73 vintage. (looked like a big block? :B) It was towing a pop up tent trailer.
My point?
They were going to the Grand Canyon and that sucker had the whole family including Alice in it!!! :E
A little math now:
Mr and Mrs Brady= Lets say 300 lbs
Alice= 150 lbs
Bobby and Cindy: Mmmmmm 75 apiece = 150 lbs
Peter and Jan= 125 apiece= 250 lbs
Greg and Marcia 125 apiece=250 lbs
That is 1,100 LBS of people!!!!! :E :E :E :E I know, I know, Marcia might have been a little under 125 but lets not quibble here. :D
Plus they had a ton of camping equipment on top of the luggage rack!! Remember those? Then they had a BIG tent trailer on the tail!!
It HAD to have over 1,500 lbs of payload on that thing! I just thought it was interesting that this 70's wagon could do this and.......awwwwwwwww never mind. :W

bmanning, I agree with your analysis:)
Me too but not much else could be said. Correct size of an engine for that size of pickup.
chevman - TerryallanExplorer IIY'all keep saying 1/2 ton. there is no such thing as a 1/2 ton truck. Admittedly the Ram is close. But as for the others. They are closer to 3/4 ton, and 1 ton, than 1/2 ton.
We need to forget the 1/2 ton label, and stick to the manufacturer's badging like F150, or 1500 series. My F150 is closer but not quite to a 1 ton (2000lbs) than 1/2 ton (1000lb). - TerryallanExplorer II

Which crossover SUVs can tow more than 5,000 lbs? Tow ratings like that usually require a V8.
As for me, the diesel-powered Grand Cherokees fit our needs as it can tow our 5,000 lb. travel trailer with ease, yet is small enough to fit in our tiny garage or easily maneuver tight parking lots downtown.
If one puts lots of miles on their rig, it can save money in the long run even if diesel remains slightly more expensive than gas.Terryallan wrote:
yep, who will blow that kind of money, and put up with the hassle of a diesel, Just to tow a TT that a smaller less expensive SUV cross over could tow.
Read it again. He said 4 to 5K, Not more than. As for Crossovers that can tow 5K. Explorer, Traverse, Acadia, Flex........ Stopping for fear of leaving one out and offending someone. - spud1957ExplorerSorry
- gtsumExplorer^^^^ that is the case with my ram 1500.....they r pigs. With family and fuel I had 420lbs of cargo left before gvwr....buddies ecoboost has 600lbs more capacity than mine. Like the truck, but a ram 1500 is very limited when it comes to payload (on Laramie or Laramie longhorn models)
