Have posted a few questios phere on the truck camper forum asking for help in down sizing to a TC and thanks for the help so far, I have been going over the weights of the TC's that we have looked at and all are over weight for my truck(07 Chevy 3500HD long bed Ext cab dual rear wheel diesel) but I do understand I can add suspension upgrades and maybe handle the bigger units but looking at replacing the truck and with the gas trucks having more capacity my question is do the gas 3500 or 350's handle the load of a heavy TC ?
The GM gas or diesel both use the big AAM 11.5" rear axle that carries a load in the trucks bed.
Scaled rear axle weights have shown maybe 60 lb difference in the same gas/diesel truck configuration so actual rear axle payload is very small.
In the mid '00 GM ran some low 8200-8500 RAWR on their DRW trucks....for a soft ride. Sometime later they realized their mistake and raised the AAM 11.5" rear axle rating to 9375 rawr. I'm not sure which year model was the big increase.
If the truck were mine I would load the camper and then decide if the truck needs suspension help.
Gas or diesel ??
For just 4k-6k the new gen gaz engines works fine.
