EXHAUST BRAKE! If you want that and I can't stress what a life changer that is, you HAVE to get a diesel that has it. All of the newer diesels by all the big three do.
That's one thing that irks me about my truck is not having an exhaust brake or the like. 2011+ GM trucks have it (or something).
Coming up out of Death Valley and down in to Panamint Valley was "not fun" even with my light weight 6x12 cargo trailer. I was in first gear, and still on the brakes a lot.
I added the banks speed brake to my 07 chevy diesel and it works well towing the fifth wheel , it was all plug and play and works the same as the factory brake using the turbo vanes and trans down shifts , maybe not always a smooth as the factory but does the job.
I am having a hard time understanding this. Even without a reaL "exhaust brake" the T/H mode on the Alli is incredible. We routinely drive the Kanc Highway in the White Mts with the TC and a trailer behind us. There are some 22* grades, the Alli does a great job braking on it's own. I just replaced rear brakes on our truck at 98k for the first time. (Replaced with OEM components).
To answer the OP; I feel the same way about the diesel as my guns. They will pry them from my cold, dead....
Needed or not....I can't imagine not driving diesel any longer.
