Diesel vs gas for truck campers?

I wouldn't be scared of hauling a truck camper with a newer gas motor. The new gas motors have the power of the 15 year old diesel trucks. Gas will get you where you want, gas motor and purchase price is cheaper. Gas is running cheaper than diesel around us pretty much all the time for the last 12 years of us having a diesel.
Diesel with just a truck camper will feel like a rocket ship, ours does. I love the diesel in my truck. But we also tow behind our TC and have a large toyhauler.
