The Ford 08-10, 6.4, dumped fuel into 4 cylinders to regen. The 6.4 would lose power and mileage(a lot of mileage)during regen. If regen was not completed before you shut down the engine, the unburnt fuel would flow into the crank case. That is why the 6.4 was infamous for "making oil".
The 2011+ Ford doesn't have this problem. During regen in dumps fuel into 2 cylinders and only dumps the fuel as it is burned, so no making oil. Also the 2011+ does not lose any power during regen,or at least you can't tell there is a decrease in power. With the 6.4, you could definitely feel the decrease in power. The mileage drop on the 2011+ is only about 2MPG for 15-20 minutes, much less than the 6.4. The 2011+ also has a passive regen sequence that you don't feel at all.
The Dodge 2007.5-12 had the same problem, that is why their mileage suffered so much and they had DPF clogging problems.
The tail pipe on my 2011 Ford is as clean as the day I bought it 5 years ago.
