Difference between 4.30 & 3.55 gears
My 2011 F-350 has a 3.55 geared rear end. The new 2017 F-450 only comes with a 4.30 geared rear end. Basically the same engine (6.7 turbo diesel). Does that mean better or worse fuel consumption...

I have a different truck, but have 3.73 gears, wish I had selected 4.10 when I ordered my truck. I got hung on the mileage thing and later found out, it would actually get better with the 4.10 gears. With the 3.73 gears, I am a few hundred rpms low for the power I need to tow at 60mph in 5th gear. With the 4.10s I would have those extra rpms and not shift 4-5-4-5 on slight grades or headwind days. When it drops down to 4th gear, it is running a few hundred rpms faster than it needs... I have plenty of transmission gears to still run low rpms for fuel economy.
