I wonder if there aren't "IF/THEN" statements in your manual.
Such as:
IF the ambient temperature is this, THEN use that lubricant.
or
IF you are towing heavy loads in high heat, THEN you should use this lubricant.
or
IF you do not have a limited slip differential, THEN you do not need a friction modifier.
