Same as the 1970s all over again. Lots of people kicked and screamed.
Same when DEF was added to the diesels with many holding onto the old equipment.
The real change will be when it is no longer cost effective to sell gasoline & diesel. I plan to be around in 2050 to see it. Better chance of making it that far as the air gets cleaner.
I tend to agree the above^^^
The bigger battle will be about who takes over the money. Tesla really changed the game by producing a viable EV while the big boys were a sleep at the switch.
Battery technology and charging will come in time. But who will collect the money in the end. Will the fossil fuel guys convert gas stations to charging stations. Or will utility companies seize the moment and develop their own charging network.
Who collects the money is the bigger question. Technology will churn on and find solutions, however who collects the profits is yet to be determined
Back in the day when the model T was developed it not only replaced the horse, but it replaced covered wagons, the stage coach and all modes of tranportation. There were no paved roads or gas stations but, somehow we manage to put them in place nationwide.
We now have a new model T for Tesla, to think it won't change the way we travel and tranport cargo is naive. The only if is how long it will take.
I would think both. Up here in BC we are already seeing Chevron and Petrocan install DC fast chargers in the province. As well, our provincial utility has already installed 130 chargers in 70 ish locations and is in the process of installing 140 more covering all the northern routes to Alaska and the Yukon. As well esso is co-locating some superchargers with their locations. We just dragged our little travel trailer across the country and back and noticed that some of the coop gas stations were installing coop branded fast chargers across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. As well many of the superchargers we used were co-located with those same coops.
Just an observation.
