Right now, it's mostly related to intermittent energy sources (ie: wind and solar). But if the grid is struggling now and you are increasing the load by 20-30%, you can't expect it to be better.
Most cars aren't at home in the garage mid-day.
Using them as batteries to feed back into the grid during peak periods is an option but most people aren't going to be happy wearing out the single most expensive part of their car making up for a failing of the power grid system.
