- jerem0621Explorer III have used both and have never seen a difference at all.
Now that we have the 2.0 EcoBoost in my wife’s car I probably will run Mobile 1 as I know there is a lot going on with the turbo and “stuff” like Bryan mentioned in his 1.0.
MPG will not be the main driver. I want this car to go to 200k plus.
Thanks!
Jeremiah - carringbExplorerI can't tell in my van. I do it for longer intervals, and because it protects better under extreme use.
On my 1.0 EcoBoost, it did make a difference, even at the same rated viscosity. The effective viscosity under average temps is generally lower however, and that little motor probably has a fairly low engine oil temp under normal conditions. I did the switch twice, and average highway fuel economy was 4 mpg (48 vs 44) better with full synthetic. Drive cycles and conditions were very similar between the tests.
Note the 1.0 Ecoboost has a variable displacement engine oil pump, and an oil-bath timing belt, and piston squirters, so there's a lot more going in with the oil than other motors. - LwiddisNomad IIEvery three thousand miles, Fish? lol

has any one when from dino oil to full synthetic oil & had better m p g & what oil & how much better m p g did you get ? i have 2011 chevy 2500 Duramax pulling 35 ft 5th wheel..
Running the exact same viscosity between a Synthetic and Conventional oil will yield the same fuel mileage.- LwiddisNomad IIUsing a quart of oil every 3000 miles doesn’t alarm you...even slightly?
- SCVJeffExplorerI see significantly better mileage, sometimes in excess of 25% immediately after a synthetic change. But that drops off rapidly with the first tank of gas..~300-400 miles
It's not hype... it just doesn't last
I still run it in everything but the C7 - 1971duster340ExplorerBy using Mobil1, I saved a Datsun engine in 1978 after it overheated...never used the hydrocarbon stuff again. '90 Suburban had 262K mi. when I sold it and '01 had 180K mi. Neither engines needed oil between changes. Maybe I would have gotten the same life using dino oil, but it would have fried and stuck to the inside of the Datsun engine.
- Shadow_CatcherExplorerI use synthetic in everything from the the differentials to the engine grease in trailer wheel beings. The main reason is wear and high temperature tolerance. MPG is not a big concern other than winter where it is worth a a couple of MPG.
- downtheroadExplorermileage and towing a 35 ft. fifth wheel...
oil isn't going to make any difference......forget about it. - honda1Explorertks for the replays , i'm using delvac now, it seams it uses 1 qt every 3,000 miles & other engines ive used mobil oil in have used oil, switched to castrol oil & doesn't use as much, synthetic would be better , may not be worth changing .
