Dirtbag thief

Newbie here, 4th post...

Sorry to say that after many years storing a TT in a gated facility I suffered a theft. 2 brand new batteries from my new, never camped in, Coleman.

Manager says she knows who likely did it. Bad customer who was having troubles getting his old rv started. He’s gone, no more access and I have 2 more new batteries.

So... anyone know of locking battery boxes? As a deterrent I found security cables that fit tightly, secured with padlocks. Strictly “perceived” security, but a start.

Thanks!

  • Your best bet is to bring them home with you and put them on a battery tender.
  • I purchased this:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJQI2K2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

fits in the front on the A-frame behind the propane tanks; It fits 2 batteries, hose pipe, electric cord and other odds and ends. Can be locked with a padlock

Unfortunate it has to be this way. :( I recently replaced my aging tongue mounted G27 flooded battery with a new G31 AGM and mounted it inside the front pass through cargo compartment, which is handy now that I'm not keeping the trailer here at the house.

It will probably never happen to you again. I would guess the majority of owners have never had a battery stolen.
If you had built a wooden lockable box and had those batteries in it, I would bet that would have been enough of a deterrent to that thief.

RV Lockbox, Torklift are just a couple.

    Thanks for your responses!

I will check out the options!

FWIW, I use a cable and lock on my propane tanks and a pin lock on my hitch. Cable locks on my 4-wheelers and generator.

    Never thought about my batteries...

That's exactly what I do with mine. Figure they will move to the next camper that is easier to take from.
  • That’s the one positive...no additional damage. Report the theft to police. Provide information regarding manager’s statement to you, videos etc.
  • Sorry for your loss, however, glad for you there was not additional damage.
