Flo is a thief!

Approximately every couple years we call around for insurance quotes. Usually we find one cheaper than the one we've used the past couple years (which was the cheapest at that time). Insurance companies have a habit of drawing you in and gradually raising prices. Progressive was the cheapest for us at one time along with GMAC, National Interstate, etc. It's a vicious circle. $600 a year raise? They don't want your business. Look elsewhere.

Back in the 60s Allstate had policy of no commission on new customer then once hooked raise rates by adding commission.

I've found that being tied to a single insurance company isn't necessarily the best deal for me. Insurance companies manage their risk and portfolios just like any other cautious investor - when they are overweight in an area or thinking the overall risk of that part of their portfolio is increasing they raise rates.

At the same time, another company may be trying to diversify by building your type of insurance into their portfolio.

So I agree with bgum, Progressive is saying that they don't want your business - but I bet there is somebody out there who does. Good luck!

As someone else said, it's a good idea to shop all your insurance every few years. IME they give you a low rate and then subject you to increases. When you move it you will get a better rate for a few years and then it will go up fast. Rinse and repeat.

I would highly recommend Wawanesa insurance, but I think they only sell auto insurance in California, Oregon, and a couple of other states, as well as all of Canada.

I got a great rate from Wawanesa.
