Dirty awning

I have tried several products but can't remove grime from the underside of my awning. looks like mildew. the awning was in closed position for 3+ months and was not cleaned after last trip (a lesson learned). any suggestions?

  • Tilex or any similar product works. Get something with a long handle. We use the brush my father used thirty years ago so he must have had the same problem
  • Mold Armor at Home Depot or Lowes works for me.

Spray it on, roll up the awning for 15 minutes, unroll, scrup with soft brush.
  • The easiest way is to wet it down, spray it with Tilex and roll it back up for an hour. Then unroll it and spray it down again, it will be like new
  • I use rv awning cleaner and a soft brush . Just do not use a power washer , you will cause it to leak ...like in rain on your head.
  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Make it wet, swipe a small area, follow with a dry cloth. Do small sections at a time until you've covered the entire awning. The eraser will put a chemical on the awning that will prevent black from coming back. Mine is now 2 years old. I've used Mr. Magic Eraser twice (in the spring). Awning is still nice and white, except for some dead bug spots. Touch up those spots with the eraser, and everything stays bright! Do not "rub", just wipe. If it doesn't come off the first time, wipe again, but don't scrub. Keep it wet.
  • Mixture of bleach and water wet the whole awning then roll it up for about a half hour. Open it up and scrub it clean. And don't feel bad it gets dirty when rolled up, water gets inside mine so I kind of gave up on keeping it looking brand new.
