Mold/dirty awning

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?

If spraying bleach on it didn't work....???
Then, I'm out of suggestions.. It has always worked for me with the toughest, dirtiest awnings and slide toppers..

2nd vote for Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It works.

Make it wet, but not dripping. Simply wipe a small part of the awning. Follow with a dry cloth. If it all does not come off, wipe again and follow with the dry cloth. Do not scrub, just wipe. Move to another small section.

The chemical in the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will also keep mold and black from coming back for a long time. I do my awning in the Spring, usually during my first camp of the season. This way, I can use a picnic table to stand on and not have to use a ladder. (It's just the way I like to do it).

Then I'll do it again, sometime in August. But it's never really black. Mostly, it's just bugs that got rolled up in the awning.

In order to get the top of the awning, I use a long extendable painters wand and have a soft RV brush on the end. I then make the Mr. Clean Eraser really wet.... dripping wet. And lay it on top of the awning. I then take a dry towel and wrap it around the brush and simply lay the brush on the Mr. Clean Eraser.

This provides enough pressure, and does a nice job. I then simply move the brush up and down the awning. The towel drys it and also removed the grit. If there is a more stubborn spot, like tree sap on the top side, I just move the brush up and down a little longer on the same spot. It always comes off, and no black reappears.

Yes, it takes a "little" effort to do this, but the pay-off is WELL worth it. The awning stays white on the underside, except for the occasional bug poo. A simple spot wipe ever now and then will clean that off too.

50/50 bleach & water works great on my great on my 14 year old awning. I spray it down, roll it up for 15-20 mins, and then roll it out and hose it off. Are you sure it's mold/grime that you're fighting? Have you tried to scrub it any?

Spray it with AwSome. Or Clorox II, ALL of it. Careful not to get it on the TT finish. Then roll it back up. Leave it for 20, or 30 min. then unroll it, and wash it off.

I cleaned ours and after a few months it was dirty again. It rains and water and dirt seems to seep in the ends and collect in the low spots.

It forms bands across the awning.

I use Tilex 2-3 times a year and it works well to keep it looking good.

Try this in a 2 gal pump up sprayer: a mixture of Dawn (enough to make soapy, + 1/4C bleach + water. Fill with water first then Dawn, then bleach. Shake to mix.
Spray underside of open awning. Be sure to wear white clothes and goggles. Roll up awning and wait about 15 - 20 minutes. Extend awning and rinse. This removed all of the dirt and most of the mildew. I re-sprayed the stubborn areas and brushed the areas with a car wash brush. I had tried various cleaners and methods but this beat them all. I cannot take credit for this method. A friend on the Keystone forum suggested it! It worked great for me, so try it. Good luck!

P.S. Living in Az. we don't get much rain. But when we do I try to extend the awning when it stops and let it dry. Works for me.
