Distilled or Deionized?

For batteries?

Both bottles say "Good For Lead Acid Batteries"
  • I was using distilled for many years and then I read an article about 20 years ago indicating no need for distilled. Since then I use city water out of the tap. My batteries last the expected length of time (5 to 6 years)
  • Our industrial battery watering system used deionized at one time. Because of the incompetence and cost to maintain deionized systems they ran filtered city water in 4800 pound Crown batteries, still good after 8 years and running 3 shifts of abuse. I use distilled.

  • Distilled. Water that is truly deionized is an insulator and will NOT conduct electricity! (Until you add something to it. Then it becomes an conductor). Addint to a lead-acid battery, it will make no difference, but distilled is more available and cheaper.
  • I use distilled, I have yet to see deionized water and not sure of the affect of the deionized water.
