Yes, you need to have the trailer brakes up and ready to rock n roll if you should need them. I do not think pin# 4 controls that but i would double check to know for sure.
The older GM trucks did not have a battery isolator as Fords did. Im not sure if the newer GM's have an isolator which allows the TV and TT to remain connected while parked without the fear of running the TV battery as well as the TT battery. You need to isolate that connection . Unplugging the 7 way connector from the TV while parked is a sure way to know. But you have to make sure you plug it back in when you leave. An isolator solves all those possible senior or distracted moments.
The new GM with a max tow package may have an isolator built in.
