I think y'all think I be dumb. I know I need to plug that big black rubber thing on my trailer into my truck (what else will keep the trailer from falling off the ball ;))
This year we're going to take a few trips all within 100 miles. Any place we go will at a minimum have water & electric. I do plan on running the fridge on propane on the way down to keep it cool. I will pre-cool it on shore power before hand.
So since I'm taking short trips and will have electric when I arrive do I need to hook up the power from TV to my 7 pin for the short trip (2-4 hours)?
Update: What I mean is my Tow Vehicles do not currently have power at pin 4. So while towing my TV will not charge the RV battery.
Also, do I need to have a battery disconnect?
The only thing running when sitting at my house is the propane/battery detector and the radio. During winter the battery will be brought inside to keep from freezing.
As others have said, you do not need power to pin 4. However, as you said, your Yukon simply needs a fuse installed in the right slot in the fuse block. Real easy to do, so why not? Then your battery is being maintained while driving.
Also, a battery disconnect switch is not necessary. But it sure is useful. If you are not connected to shore power at home, it will prevent parasitic draw from draining your battery. But caution, if you do install one, be sure to bypass the disconnect switch for power to your break-away brake system. You want to have that powered at all times while towing, whether the disconnect switch is on or off. If your trailer were to come disconnected while towing, and the 7-pin ripped out, there would be no break-away system if the battery disconnect was turned off and you had not bypassed it.
Good luck.
