- kohldadExplorer IIIWorst I've had to level was the two back tires up on a 10" wood block topped with 2x10 ramp which had 3 lego blocks on top for a total of about 16". To make it worse, one of the front tires was up on a 4" rock I found nearby. It was a pain to get up on the blocks and I received some very funny looking stares of dis-belief from walkers, but the view was worth the effort. To secure the truck all I did was put the manual trans in 1st gear, transfercase was in 4wd Low to get on the blocks, and then set the parking brake. Never moved nor lost any sleep worrying about it.
Now with an automatic, its just park and set the brake. - sbryanExplorer IINot yet but I suppose I might if I was uncomfortable with my parking situation. Have always chocked the toy hauler but that is a different kettle of fish.

If it's that steep that in gear and p brake won't hold then it's too steep to level up the truck anyway.
I DO chock a wheel if I have to get out of the seat on a boat ramp. I'd rather not be on u tubes dumbest boat launch videos. - JIMNLINExplorer IIIWhen using rv parks or modern campgrounds with pads or parking places to set up on, I set the parking brake.....shift to low or reverse.......kill the Cummins.....then let the clutch out. No chocks or blocks.
If were set up in a hilly steep area (boon docking) that requires some type of ramp on one side or one end of the truck I use 5"x 5" x 12" blocks cut from barn poles as chocks around a tire thats on the ground plus parking brake.
We all camp in different terrain and we all set up the way we like. - lakeside013104ExplorerNo chock on the truck tires. On a steep slope, my wife leans against the bumper.
Lakeside - RainierExplorerDoesn't hurt to chock
- joeshmoeExplorernope. that's what the e-brake is for. choks are for anything that can easily roll away, IMO, like my boat trailer, when it's detached.
- I've never used wheel chocks on my truck, even when I park on leveling blocks.

My TC doesn't have tires. I do use the emergency brake on the truck. ;)
^^^^^^^LMAO.. beat me to it.. well played sir.
No... can't say I ever have, and I use ramps often. But I am a strong believer in the parking brake. Anyone that relies on "park" to hold a load, and is willing to put that much stress on the tranny, well...you're not paying attention.
Chocks are a good idea. Nothing wrong with them. Use them often, just haven't had the truck/TC parked in a position that was anything north of comfortable. Everyone has their limits of comfort. - Buzzcut1Nomad III will chock the tires if I am on a slope and have one end rather high on leveling blocks. you can see the chock behind my front wheel in the pic. I was 6 or 7 lego blocks high in the back
