We're looking into buying our first trailer. Friends of ours bought their first one a few years ago and love it. But this is interesting. They say they NEVER use their toilet except for quick toile...

We use the toilet all the time. And, the shower.
That's one reason we bought a self contained unit.
Consider trying The Geo Method or something similar. Many use just water, nothing else.
And, others use the commercial chemicals. Try them all and see what works best for you.
And, don't buy the 'RV Toilet Paper'. It's not worth the money. Just use any toilet paper that is septic safe.
Now, start looking for your TT. Ask lots of questions on the forum before making your purchase, someone will have the answer for you.
