We want our truck for exploring, easy off - easy on, or take camper to explore and may not return to same CG if we find an interesting area. It's small enough to take it or leave it, depending on plans or surprises.
We want to tow a boat or cargo trailer (ATV, Bikes?) Otherwise, it's small, altho, our backyard is the entire wilderness.
Or any combination --- we are not limited.
None of those applied to me.
I bought TC when city chased my bus conversion from my 1/2 acre property in California, where I had space for at least 7 buses.
Since our sons left the nest, we did not need big RV and at the time we did not make any trips, so TC not generating any keeping cost work well for us. Since I had pickup for business - that was easy decision.
Our friends just bought $140,000 ClasC on Sprinter chassis.
Nice thing and I would love to have one, but I don't think I want to spend that kind of money for RV.
