Dodge 6.4 hemisphere vs Chevy 6.0

According to my coworker that went from an 08 GM 2500hd 6.0 to the newer 6.4 dodge there really hasn't been much difference. This is what I have been told. He just likes the ride of the ram better. Pulling he says it's basically the same? So I have not driven the new 6.4, so I have no self comparison yet. Both rears are similar as far as I know, gm had 3.73 and I think he said the dodge got the same or 3.92. Regardless it's the 6.4 2500 series. Nice truck, much improved rear seat room. the only thing that he didn't like was the long second gear runs? whereas the GM stayed in higher gears while towing.

Not true due to the different gearing - 4.10 vs 3.73. The 4.1 gears will likely be better pulling uphill or in mountains.

BTW... This tested was conducted at Chrysler's proving grounds and with a Chrysler sales person. Terms like: sluggish, no acceleration were used and the lame Chrysler sales man and no knowledge what so ever.

The 6.4 trans uses the same ratios as the Cummins trans, but it lacks the torque to manage them well. It's unfortunate because it hampers what appears to be a great gas motor. I still like it better than the 6.0, though, and I think it may get slightly better real world mileage.

The payload differance between my 2 trucks is about 300 lbs, not enough to matter. It still comes down to which one you feel comfortable in.

When I was truck shopping the 2500 ram with the 6.4 had rear coils but still a GVWR of 10000, 9000 with the 5.7. That gave it a touch over 3000 lb payload, note the payload of the 2 trucks, that could sway your decision too.

I do know the TFL truck guys are so smart they tested the 6.4 Hemi in Drive mode only the entire trip. Towing 6-7k lbs. They didn't use Tow/Haul and manually select gears. It was such a flub they spoke with Chrysler afterwards and printed what is in essence a retraction. Wish they would have just repeated the prior useless test.

Chrysler made it clear the rpm used was intentional to keep folks from blowing their trucks up. If I recall, it stayed in 2nd gear and at other times hunted. As I understand it, manually selecting gears using tow/haul would have been a drastically different test. But I'm not up on all this stuff. Just passing on some internet banter. But I did see the letter Chrysler sent TFLT.

You can find the info between Chrysler and TFLT online. Just mentioning this in case you are interested in 6.4 Hemi and saw dumb and dumbers Gauntlet Run tube video. I saw it, researched it, and still want the Hemi 6.4.

I don't think the 6.4 will compare to the Triton V10 either. The TFL guys did a video of a 4500 RAM 6.4 with a flat bed with a tank of water IIRC and a snow plow on the front. Mr. Truck was driving the truck and was not impressed with the power.
