The newer SCR equipped Cummins motors do close to as well as the pre-emission Cummins, with a lot more power in a heavier truck.
Driving the 1400 miles home from Greeley, Co with our new 2015 we were getting around 18 MPG at 80 MPH and over 21 at 65 MPH. Started the trip with 40 miles on the clock, took it easy for the first few hundred miles. With 3.42 gears, 33+" tires and the Aisin 6 speed, this truck has long legs, yet gets rolling nicely with the Aisin's low 1st gear.
This is our third RAM truck and without a doubt the most refined by 100 fold.
I will have towing mileage reports to compare to the 2001.5 after Christmas. IF and that is a big if, I tow at the same 63 MPH speed I think the mileage will be close to the same. This is with a truck that weighs around 1200 pounds more. Power levels are not all that different than the mildly bomb'd 2001.5 that was limited by the lack of gears in the 4 speed auto. Old blue as we now call her was not a freeway cruiser with her 4:10 gears and shorter tires, but she towed the 12.4K trailer great.

Yet another report about YOUR new truck. Nothing to do with a 2001.5 or 2015 . It involves 2005-09.
I could get on here every day ,and report all the mileage ,and power my 2014 Ram has, but it wasn't asked for.
Its a pretty simple decision if you want more towing power, and possibly some emissions issues go the 2007.5- 2009 6.7's if you want to give up gears ,and less power go 5.9 . Its not that complicated. The newer the trucks got the more power they have. If not I would still be towing with my 99 Superduty 7.3
